



Beginner’s Ceramics Course: Hand-building + Wheel-throwing
A foundational, beginner-friendly program that introduces you to the two core techniques of pottery: hand-building and wheel-throwing. You’ll learn essential skills like pinching, coiling, and slab-building by hand, alongside the basics of throwing, trimming, and shaping clay on the potter’s wheel.
By the end of the course, you’ll have a personal collection of pottery—designed, crafted, and glazed entirely by you.
What You’ll Learn
Clay & Tools
Understanding different types of clay and their properties
Preparing clay through wedging techniques: Slap & Slice and Bull’s Head
Hand-Building Techniques
Pinch, coil, and slab construction
Joining techniques and attaching multiple clay forms
Wheel Work
Throwing a cylinder (the foundation for many forms)
Collaring to create bottles or bud vases
Throwing bowls with flat bases
Shaping cylinders into functional forms
Trimming wheel-thrown pieces
Making and attaching handles
Surface Decoration & Glazing
Carving, fluting, stamping, and underglaze techniques (explored based on student interest)
Identifying and avoiding common glaze issues
Mixing glaze from powder and applying it via dipping, pouring, and layering

Your own mini ceramic collection—up to 12 fired & glazed pieces
Hands-on experience with both hand-building and wheel-throwing
Confidence to keep exploring ceramics independently

Absolute beginners welcome—no prior experience needed.
This course is designed for those new to clay or looking to refresh their fundamentals.

Studio clay for practice and final work
Full access to equipment: electric wheels, hand tools, and sculpting materials
Firing and glazing of up to 12 pieces
Batch Size
Small groups of up to 6 participants.
Groups may include a mix of experience levels for a more diverse learning environment.

15 Sessions
Timings:
Weekday Morning: 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM
Weekend: Saturdays | 11:30 AM – 1:30 PM or 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Important Terms
Missed Classes
Weekday batches must be completed within 1 month
Saturday batches must be completed within 3 months
Refund Policy
Full refund if cancellation is requested at least 2 weeks before the course starts
After that, refunds are only possible if your seat is filled by someone else
If no replacement is found, no refund will be issued
No exceptions (including illness, travel, or emergencies)
Seat Transfers
You may transfer your seat to a friend or family member before the course begins
No transfers allowed once the course has started
